Use the referral link on this page to sign up for Dropbox. You get 500 MB of extra storage, and the person who referred you gets 500 MB to 1 GB of storage per referral. Install the desktop app and verify email.

It's worth using if you're opening a Dropbox account anyway: it costs nothing and adds 500 MB of free storage on top of the standard allowance. Don't sign up just for it, though. It's storage, not cash.

In short, the bonus is for new accounts only, and signing up on the same computer as the person who referred you can make the referral ineligible.

How to get your own Dropbox referral link

Log in to dropbox.com, click your avatar, then Settings, then Refer a friend, and copy your invite link. Dropbox Basic accounts get 500 MB per referral, up to 16 GB. Plus, Family and Professional accounts get 1 GB per referral, up to 32 GB.
